Best song with a story?

Post by RoamingMadness »

So a lot of great songs tell storys.. and i was bored so i thought id ask what songs do you think tell the best stories? I find these types of songs, more than any other pull certain emotions out of me.

I will nominate two.

Hurricane by Bob Dylan
Escape by Rupert Holmes
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

There probably isn't any meaning in life. Perhaps you can find something interesting to do while you are alive. Like how you found that flower. Like how I found you.

for me Lay lady lay by bob dylan, although the cover version by ministry does carry alot more emotions

things beyond things by devin townsend is also quite emotive in that same sense
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Two come to mind:

American Pie - Don McLean

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.

Across the Universe - The Beatles

Words are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

...

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe
Old Man.

I kind of agree with mikey. American Pie, the story of the evolution of pop culture with a coming of age mingled through out.

True that. Have a couple of his records, and I pretty much despise all other country music.

I am not a fan of Mr. Cash. Have you heard the original version of Hurt? It is a lot better.

I don't like nin at all, but I love Cash, so imo the cash version is better.

But it's always like this, whenever you say you like a cover better than the original, someone screams out "ffs the original is better". It's kinda taboo, some kind of unwritten law, that the original is always better.
