So, yesterday (wednesday) i mustered up the courage and strength to drag my sorry ass to the open mic night at the local comedy club. Not knowing what to expect really, I thought I would do pretty poorly. They allowed 8 open micers to perform and I went 7th.
They give you 4 minutes to perform your set, and I was always told that it feels like an eternity... well, that is a lie. It felt like it went super fast actually. I had a set list written out with word prompts to remind me of where it was I wanted to go w/ the jokes, and I got through about half of it, with mixed success. Some observations on the night:
1)Somethings I found clever, the audience didn't really laugh at, but then again, my delivery for them probably needed some work.
2)The biggest laughs I got were from a true story that happened to me regarding road rage, and an improvised bit when i asked anyone have road rage? and some guy overenthusiastically said "YEAAAAAAAAH!" and i said "okay...not something to be that proud of, sir." then i saw a girl pointing at her boyfriend/husband and kinda pointed that out.
3)People seem to really like penis jokes...
Anyhow, after it was all over with, I got off stage and walked back to my seat, and felt on top of the world. I didn't totally bomb, which was really nice. The experience was amazing. You forget you're nervous when you first start talking. It was a great experience and i'm looking forward to doing it again.
so....I performed stand-up
so....I performed stand-up

Wow, that's quite impressive matey! Surveys have shown (this is true) that people in Sweden are more afraid of talking in front of an audience than they are of death. The rankings was like,
1: talking in front of an audience
2: dying
3: relatives dying.
4: etc..
Hey, if you ever record anything, you should post in the web, like on youtube or something. I would like to see it, hehe

ha. Well, i also read that the people that others find "funniest" in their group of friends aren't always the best suited for stand-up. So, who knows.ZoSo wrote:wow on a few fronts

The ones that got the most laughs were the ones that enacted the joke.
It was a long long night. Watched 19 acts, half of which were first timers. Several headliners mixed in.
Some guy roasted me, but its all in good fun.
yeah, thats what i realized as well. the ones that got a lot of laughs were ones where i was involved with my actions as well as my words.
