Did stand-up on my birthday

Post by Styrofoam »

So I did stand-up last night. It was my 4th time going on stage, and truthfully, i felt more comfortable this time than I ever have previously. Some background real fast (as if anyone cares but, fuck you guys anyways)

The first time i went up I did a certain set, mainly revolving around stupid Americans, warning labels on products, and road rage. The next two times I went up I did a different set, based on drinking, and how men love their cars like they love women. (As in when they get a "new car" they like to forget how many people have been inside it before them) etc.

Well, yesterday I was going to do something totally brand new. Planned on it when I went on stage, and everything. Its worth mentioning that the room was nearly full. It was the largest crowd on a wednesday night i had ever seen, and I heard the owner saying how weird it was that so many people came out on a wednesday. ANYWAYS, I was going to do a set about love, valentines day, and being single... I was supposed to go 4th, but the guy in front of me chickened out (it would have been his first time doing comedy, i tried to give him the same advice the pros gave me my first time) so that put me at third. I got up there, and when i moved the mic stand and stool to better suit my needs, I called an audible. I decided to try out my first set again. I don't know if it was out of nervous fear of trying something brand new i hadn't performed yet, or the urge to make something work that only kinda sorta worked before... I don't know, but when I did the first joke i felt completely at ease and finally the 4 minutes i was given felt like way more. I wasn't sure If the end of my road rage joke would take me to the 4 minute mark or not. Luckily it did, and I didn't have to drag it on any further, but this was by far the best night i had for comedy in a long long time.
